Summer has arrived and here in NC, many of us hope to spend a bit of time at the beach or on vacation. Many of you may call this “the shore”- same thing- we like the whole vibe of those beach, lake or pool days, right?
These vacation days with our littles can provide TIME that we may not have during the school year. We can use books to both learn about God’s creation and nature, and to “mark” special getaways or adventures!
If we take a trip to the beach, we can pick up a book at a local gift store about local wildlife- dolphins, turtles, blue heron, osprey, crabs or manatees. When visiting the zoo, we can pick up a book about how the habitats and habits of the animals we’re seeing. If we visit the mountains, we can pick up a book about hiking or camping, the rivers we hike next to or the stars we gaze upon at night. If we plan an adventure to a local cultural area like Seagrove, NC (pottery area), we can pick up a book about the process of creating pottery from clay! The ideas are endless.
Write the date and place in front of the book you purchased for recall later on. Not only are we sitting down to read and learn with our kiddoes, we have this souvenir from our time together that we can enjoy over and over again. I think we’re also modeling for our kids that learning from reading can actually be FUN.
We can BOOK TIME WITH OUR KIDS at home, but we can also book time with them on vacation days, slower days, rainy days, or days when we simply have had too much fun in the sun! Connecting our real-life experiences always makes reading more meaningful. So, after those days of watching the dolphins glide across the waves, consider reading about those adorable creatures and learning even more about God’s incredible and endless designs!
Psalm 19:1: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Thanks for reading! Please share and subscribe for a weekly idea of how we can BOOK TIME WITH OUR KIDS!
