We’re experiencing SNOW DAYS in NC this winter, a rare occurence. We’ve just had two winter storms, back to back, and this past one brought us over 11 inches of snow! It’s been beautiful, peaceful, and of course, a time to stay home, as we are not prepared for this kind of weather.
This unexpeced time can be used in many ways. It can be a gift of extra time together as a family…..and we have to choose that. Just like everything else in life, we have to CHOOSE how we spend our time. We all have the same amount of it.
We can scroll and shop. We can focus on self and take pics. We can look at all kinds of cute things on social media.
OR….. we can shut all of that off and just BE TOGETHER. We could take lessons from days past and read books, make hot chocolate, and build fires. We can bake cookies and Book Time with Our Kids. We can suggest that we all put PHONES AWAY, crazy. Or not?
If we can’t put down our phones for a few hours and hang out with those we love, there is a problem. If we want to create “an image” to project on SM instead of creating real moments that nobody else sees, there is a problem.
I have to use a SM account, as I hope to promote my children’s books. The first one will be out soon! But this has been a real dilemna for me…….I have to use a platform that I really don’t want to use, in order to promote a message that’s been laid on my heart!
But, we can say NO to social media at times. We can say, “No cell phones for this afternoon” to our kids, to OURSELVES. And by doing this, we can teach them to KNOW how to spend time reading, playing, and just hanging out. We can point to the snowflakes and talk about God’s design in every single one of them, with none of them being the same.
Moms, our greatest task in life is to point our littles to the Lord. Period. All the rest is fluff. Let’s say NO and help them KNOW what’s really important. Snow days can provide some of the extra time to do what really matters.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9
These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. / And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. / Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. ...
